Bass in the City

If you can hitch a ride downtown tomorrow, you definitely should.
Bass in the City is going to be like nothing downtown Jacksonville has ever seen. Starting at noon on Saturday, 75 bands and DJs will be playing at five different venues downtown. At just 25 dollars a ticket (30 at the door), the festival doesn’t break the bank for college students.
I had a chance to talk with Chad Hartsfield, the Production Manager for the festival. He oversees the lighting and audio work at all five venues- 1904, the Burro Bar, Underbelly, TSI, and LIT.
When asked what UNF students can expect from Bass in the City, Hartsfield replied, “Students can expect a unique experience, with both national and local acts geared towards bringing people downtown. It’s electronic music ranging from hip-hop to dub-step”.
In addition to the musical acts, there will be local vendors, a hookah lounge, and craft beer tents. The event is all-ages and lasts all day Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday.
Voice Your Vote Campaign
As part of their college tour, Politic365, an online political magazine, came to UNF for their “Voice Your Vote” campaign. We have covered both presidential campaigns, but this was no ordinary campaign. This campaign was more focused on voter interaction and giving voters a chance to “vent” about issues that they feel are important. The focus of the tour was not to push voters towards one side, Democrat or Republican, but more so to help them be aware of important political issues, encourage them to go out and vote, and, most importantly, make their voices heard!
The event was set up as a discussion between three panelists, UNF SG President Carlo Fassi, and two writers from Politic365. Members of the audience were given the opportunity to speak their mind on a political topic (such as taxes or the environment), what they thought was wrong, and a possible solution. The members on the panel would give their input, and the conversation would continue. I think that the conversation aspect of the even was the most intriguing aspect, in the sense that the conversation helped distinguish it from your typical campaign. This was more of a campaign to persuade voters to go out vote, and, most important, know why they chose the person they voted for. Be sure to watch the clip from the campaign!
On-Campus

Before I write about tomorrow’s event, today there is Osprey Productions New Member (POP’s) Orientation (12 p.m.), Osprey Productions General Meeting (1 p.m.), The Friday Lounge (2 p.m.), and soccer games (6 p.m. and 8 p.m.).
Tomorrow there is the 5th Annual Osprey Tailgate Classic Featuring 3LAU and Twenty One Pilots. It is at 8 p.m. I had written about this event about a month ago, but it is hard to describe how I feel about this event. However, I do want to make it clear that I mean that because I like this event because Osprey Tailgate Classic III was the first mainstage event, I did something for as a Pre-Osprey Productions Member. Osprey Tailgate Classic IV I was Soap Box Ed Committee Chair. Although I am not a committee chair now, I am so happy to go again. I love mainstages, especially while helping at them. For more information, you can look at another On-Campus post, the one that was written about a month ago, which is the first link I put.

Before I write about events that are tomorrow, today there is Osprey Idol (8 p.m.) and Up All Night (9 p.m.). Also, if there are any events you want me to write about, comment on any On-Campus post.
Tomorrow there is Market Day. It is at 10 a.m. I really like Market Days. I will be tabling for a little bit, but I hope I get to go see the other tables, as well. Also, Osprey Productions’ table will have Rock Your Shadow Band. There is also University of North Florida Campus Game: Battle for a Priza Pack and $50. It seems really cool. I have OOHLALA, but I am interested in seeing how to do the University of North Florida Campus Game. Also, there is the Movie Night: “The Avengers.” It is at 4:15 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. I love “The Avengers!” Out of the four movies I saw in the summer, it was probably my favorite. Also, there is a costume contest, so I may wear something either semi-Iron Man or semi-Black Widow. I hope you go to all of the events (and dress up for Movie Night: “The Avengers”), and read tomorrow’s post for more events on Wednesday and Thursday.

Before I write about Week of Welcome, if you are thinking about playing for the UNF Rugby club, which I definitely suggest if you are considering it, then make sure you go to the first two links below. I have gone to a couple games the past couple years, and I am definitely planning to go again this year.
In terms of Week of Welcome, today there is the Open House: Intercultural Center for PEACE, AASU and UNF ASIA (11 a.m.), Intramural Sports Open House and Information Session (6:30 p.m.), Karaoke Night (7 p.m.) and Meet the Greeks (8 p.m.).
Tomorrow there is Osprey Idol. It is at 8 p.m. I am hoping I will be able to go, and if I can this will be my fourth time going. Several people usually sing, but I have seen magic, music and dancing as well. I hope you can go!
